Chapter 1
Majority of medical procedures require using supplies, instruments and/or equipment
One time use- discarded after use
Multiple time use- must be thoroughly cleaned, inspected, disinfected and/or sterilized before being used on a patient.
Minimally Invasive procedure- surgical procedure done in a way that causes little or no trauma or injury to the patient.
Whats often used to perform is :
1. Through a cannula using laser
2. Endoscopes
3. Laparoscopes
Minimally is like :
1. smaller incision
2. less bleeding
3. less anesthesia
4. less pain
5. minimal scarring
IDN- Integrated delivery network- is a system of healthcare providers and organizations that coordinate ranges of services for specific population

Decontamination- removes infectious organisms or other harmful substances.

PPE ( Personal Protection Equipment) - protects healthcare workers from contact with blood and body fluids from a patient.

Preparation and packaging- each item is carefully inspected for cleanliness, proper function and defects.
Instruments and other devices are assembled packaged and labeled for sterilization.

IFU- Instructions for use - Provided from manufacturer with detailed instructions on how to properly use and process the devices.
Sterile Storage and Distribution
Storage of sterile instruments and clean or sterile supplies

Case Cart System
Case cart pull sheet has a list of trays and supplies (soft goods) as doctors preference for the procedure (procedure card)
Material Management Department does researching, ordering, recieving and manages materials.
